Lucile Packard
Alfred E. Mann Charities is a cornerstone donor to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University. Through our contribution to the Lucile Packard Foundation, we have propelled Mr. Mann’s legacy of using science to innovate and improve health outcomes, specifically for children. Our partnership with Lucile Packard focuses on new pediatric oncology treatments, a biobank for pediatric cardiology and heart disease, prematurity and neonatal research, and pediatric brain and psychiatry research.
Doheny Eye Institute
Alfred E. Mann Charities is excited to partner with the Doheny Eye Institute and support the organization’s ongoing commitment to research. Al Mann was dedicated to addressing issues surrounding eyesight and vision health, and we believe our gift to the Doheny Eye institute is a further continuation of his quest to improve eyesight. In honor of the gift, the study lounge, located in the institute’s Conference Center, has been named the Alfred E. Mann Charities Study Lounge.

UCLA Foundation
Al Mann earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from UCLA. In honor of Mr. Mann’s passion and commitment to using science to improve human lives, we have established the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Research Acceleration Fund at the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA and the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Technology Development Fund at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA. These funds will be used to further research, technology, and tools that bring lifesaving treatments to patients with serious illnesses and address some of health care’s greatest challenges. In honor of this gift, UCLA has named the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Foyer at the Broad Stem Cell Research Center and the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Auditorium at the CNSI Building.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
Alfred E. Mann Charities, Inc. is proud to support cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Zebrafish Laboratory, a 3,000-square-foot aquatic research facility, has generated zebrafish models of different types of pediatric tumors, with the goal of identifying and testing novel therapies. The lab made the world’s first model of Ewing sarcoma, a pediatric bone tumor, and is using the model to understand the earliest stages of tumor development, as well as the mechanisms that allow Ewing sarcoma tumors to evade the immune system. Ultimately, the Zebrafish Laboratory will support studies of diabetes, heart disease and other conditions affecting children.
Cedars-Sinai
In partnership with the Board of Governors Regenerative Medicine Institute (BOG-RMI) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, we have established the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Director’s Lab and the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Science Circle, which includes the Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation Cell Sorting Room and the endowment of one Alfred E. Mann Family Foundation RMI graduate. Through our partnership with BOG-RMI, we hope to provide ample opportunities for medical leaders to grow their laboratory discoveries regarding the revitalizing power of human cells and tissues into innovative and impactful therapies to treat diseases of the brain, eye, lung, gut, skeleton, pancreas, liver, and blood.
City of Hope
We have partnered with City of Hope to accelerate research between cancer and diabetes, pancreatic and liver cancers, and brain cancer. With our support, some of the country’s leading doctors and medical innovators can pursue research and trials to further develop protection against these hard-to-treat cancers and coronavirus, fatty liver, chemotherapeutic neuropathy, and heart failure. In honor of this partnership and in memory of Al Mann, City of Hope has named the Alfred E. Mann Charities Floor and the Alfred E. Mann Charities Terrace within its Beckman Research Institute.

Al Mann was passionate about the enrichment that comes through arts and cultural experiences.
We are excited to partner with the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles to deliver a new exhibit focused on antisemitism. With plans to open in 2024, the third floor at the Museum of Tolerance will be dedicated to promoting education on antisemitism and telling the story of the oldest hate in the world that is tragically on the rise today.

Education and Youth Development

We provide Alfred E. Mann Charities YOLA Scholarships to 10 deserving graduates of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA). YOLA is the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s initiative to provide music instruction and instruments to young people, and through these scholarships, we provide funding for YOLA graduates to matriculate and thrive in colleges across the country with continued financial support for their college careers.
Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA)
YOLA—the LA Philharmonic’s music education program—currently serves close to 1,700 young musicians across five sites, providing them with free instruments, intensive music instruction (up to 18 hours per week), academic support, and leadership training.

C5 Youth Foundation of Southern California aims to change the odds for high-potential teens from under-resourced communities by inspiring them to pursue personal success, while preparing them for leadership roles in school, college, work and their communities.
